Lady Pippa Blake was born in Portsmouth, England in 1954 and educated at Downe House School, Berkshire. She studied Fine Art at Camberwell School of Art in London between 1972 and 1976 gaining a First Class BA Honours Degree. She went on to work for the Arts Council and as an assistance to a Museum Designer based in Chelsea, London.
Pippa met Peter Blake at the end of 1978 and they were married in August 1979. Their first adventure followed with a three month journey to Sydney to deliver the yacht Condor of Bermuda for the Sydney Hobart Race 1979. They then moved on to New Zealand where Pippa worked in the organisation and liaison for Ceramco NZ and many subsequent races and expeditions.
"Peter had a real love of the natural world. He was facinated by the wildlife during his ocean voyages. He believed that if we can only help more people experience the wonders of the world then they will develop respect and care for our natural resources and take responsibility for limiting the negative effects our daily lives have on them".
In 1993, Pippa resumed her painting career and has since held several solo exhibitions in the UK and New Zealand and exhibited widely in group shows mainly in Sussex, Hampshire and London.
Pippa has two children, Sarah Jane and James, both who have grown up alongside sailing and hold a strong respect for the environment.
"I hope that the BLUE™ Project can encourage people to take active steps, however small, to reduce their impact on the climate and the oceans. There has always been a tremendous link between human adventure, the climate and the oceans and if the BLUE™ Project can engage with people's spirit of adventure to change their behaviour and become more BLUE™, it will achieve a great deal".
