The summer left us as discreetly as it came (especially in Brittany where we felt no heat wave) and its now time to head back to school.
After spending the month of July sailing with Catherine Chabaud, between the Azores and Spain and a few runs on the beach of Penthièvre (Brittany), manoeuvring the Blokart which has seduced me totally, I'm now saddling up for another ocean challenge, more determined than ever.
Back in Douarnenez, Marc Ginisty, the designer and architect of my previous boats, is now working on a new infernal sailing device which should be ready some time this winter. As my previous kiteboat, this one will be pulled by a kite once again.
The requirements have evolved following the past experiences as we better understand the limitations of this developing sailing method. If we succeeded in answering a few questions since my first launching with a kiteboat from New York, in 2006, there's still considerable work to be done to succeed in taking off the kite in mid ocean.
The revolutionary kite is not here yet and it should take some more years before it will ever show up... If it ever does! We remain convinced however that there are means to improve the existing facilities. The best way is probably to head back to "Big Blue" in early 2011. There's nothing better than a test run to determine the needs.
In the meantime, we'll crank up the machinery, gather the crew, round-up the financial partners and put one foot forward in this new challenge which will offer numerous surprises. Stay tuned as I will be rolling out details very soon !
