TOM KAY
Founder of the Environmental Surf Clothing Brand, Finisterre
Tom Kay founded Finisterre from his attic in St. Agnes in 2002, combining his passions – surfing, passion for design and the marine environment. Inspired by a lack of innovation and a complete disregard for the environment shown by many brands in the lifestyle clothing industry, Finisterre was born. Seven years later, Finisterre has grown to a team of ten (and three dogs) located on the site of an old tin mine in St. Agnes. The brand has won the Observer Ethical Business Award, The Surfer's Path Green Wave Award, as well as Cornwall Sustainability Awards, with a product range including top end waterproofs, insulation pieces, to merino base layers and underwear - worn by big wave surfers, climbers, expedition leaders and adventure racers alike. Finisterre has always had a real sense of purpose and been about real commitment – to people, product and the environment - this very much rings true today and will do for the years to come.
