BIOGRAPHY

Introduction

I am a 35 year old British women and apart from the fact that I live in Egypt and can dive to 60 metres on just one breath, I'm a pretty normal. I have been splitting my life between the UK and Egypt now for over two years, and it was here in Dahab, one of the world's greatest spots for freediving that I discovered the sport and discovered that I'm actually quite good at it!

I came here to teach yoga holidays and get out of the London rat-race.  In spring 2006 I met Linda Paganelli and Lotta Ericson, two of the top five women here and last Spring, I completed my first course with them.

After reaching over 40 metres after only two months training, I was encouraged to apply for the British Team going to the World Championships in Hurghada in December 2006.  A week later, I was struck down by Hepatitis A and had an enforced 'dry dock' for over seven months.  I returned to the water at the end of March 2007 as a trial, to see how my body would respond and I was amazed to find that within one week, and in my first ever competition dive, I had set a new British women's freediving record in Constant Weight No Fins.

Freediving is a sport, a passion and a meditation for me.  I experience true freedome beneath the water and the peace stills my mind.  I train in the Blue Hole, one of the most ideal locations for freediving, with year-round clear, warm, still wters.

When I'm not in the water, I manage PR campaigns for the events team of one of the UK's major charities.  I have three dogs and three cats and am currently building my own house in Dahab.©DBurton-underwaterphotography.co.uk : Sara in the big blue ocean
