BLUE ambassadors, Sam Davies skipper of Roxy the open 60 that is taking part in this year's Artemis Transat and Conrad Humphreys (35) skipper of the 2004 race spent the day onboard the Tall Ship, the Earl of Pembroke talking to young people about the race, its conditions and how the BLUE Climate and Oceans Project aims to inspire young people to care about the oceans.

Over the opening race start bank holiday weekend, the BLUE Project has had 4,500 visitors to the Tall Ship which has proven to be a fantastic crowd puller in the Sutton Harbour race village. The Ship features an enormous 25ft octopus in the rigging and onboard a number of volunteers have been delivering a fun-packed learning programme that includes themes around marine life and climate change. Conrad and Sam have used the opportunity to share some of their remarkable stories from sailing all over the world's oceans.

Conrad Humphreys said:

"The partnership with the Artemis Transat and Sutton Harbour has given The BLUE Project an amazing platform to reach thousands of people over the weekend and I hope that through the race we can encourage many young people to become champions for the environment."

Sam will set sail with the rest of the sailing fleet in a weeks time onboard her Imoca 60, Roxy and the BLUE Project will follow her voyage across the North Atlantic to Boston, her final event before the pinnacle, the Vendee Globe single handed round the world race later on this year.

A programme of BLUE activities will continue throughout the rest of the week and right up to race start day on Sunday 11 May.  The Tall Ship, the Earl of Pembroke is open free of charge to the public between the hours of 1000 and 1600 hours daily and special themed days still to come include:

Monday 05 May 2008 - Plymouth Sound Black Thunder Crew Day

Tuesday 06 - Friday Friday 09 May - School Visits and Public Tours
