Hello everyone!
Yesterday was a hard day, full of sail-changes and changing gears, as the wind dropped off to nearly nothing (requiring the code 0 to be
hoisted) and then built back up to 35knots last night!
Yesterday was, however, a beautiful day with blue skies, sunshine and a ginormous swell from the West (perhaps warning us of winds to come!) And it started off with a very pleasant chat to the bridge of the "President Adams" - a big container ship - who wanted to know what a sailing yacht was doing out here, and when I told them about the Artemis Transat they suddenly had loads more questions (I think they were also very happy to discover that they were chatting to a girl, as it sounded like the whole crew were up in the bridge listening in!)
The President Adams also told me that they could see me on their radar at 12 miles out which was very reassuring.
Then the wind dropped.
After rushing around and once the code O was set I was so hot that I decided to have a sea-water shower. This process is common to trade winds sailing, but chucking a bucket of sea water over your head when you are at an ice-gate is another idea..... I'm proud of myself for going through with it, and it wasn't that cold (for ice-gate standards).
Although the shower gel (Original Source Watermint and Lemongrass
refreshing) recommnded usage with warm water on tired limbs, I could provide the tired limbs, but the warm was just a touch extra "refreshing"!
It is impossible to describe how good it feels to be clean and have clean hair..... oh so nice!
Then last night was a frustrating night of "missing gears" - or at least it felt like that. The wind was changing and increasing so fast that I couldn't seem to keep up with it with my sail changes. At some points Roxy was hooning along almost out-of-control too fast, then other times we were too slow.... I am pretty tired now after a very hectic night.
This morning I am going to get some sleep before the next front goes through (yet more sail changes AND a tack!) this afternoon.
Bye!
