Despite the importance of the water environments to all our lives, despite their geographical importance in covering more than 70% of this planet and despite the fact that they are facing serious threats, the amount of time spent in schools on this most important element and it environments is still very small.
At the very heart of BLUE COMMUNITIES, young people can be encouraged through their schools to engage in a positive way with the water environments nearby. This may be a stream, river, canal, pond or seashore depending upon location. Their water environment will provide a focus for opportunities to use water environments as examples within their curriculum studies. For example, local seashores could be adopted by coastal schools and used as extended classrooms.
New digital technologies provide exciting ways to share the content produced by BLUE AMBASSADORS. The BLUE Immersion Theatre, a future technology project led by the University of Plymouth allows participants to share the exhilaration of the world experienced by the BLUE ambassadors by projecting the digital imagery they capture within a hemispherical screen. The imagery is blended with other live images, and simulations from scientific data, leading to a shared understanding of human impact on the oceans and atmosphere.
