At 1800 hours GMT on Sunday 07 September 2008, BLUE Climate and Oceans Project Ambassadors Conrad Humphreys and James Hooper, joined a group of English surfers at Polzeath Beach in Cornwall, to take part in the second edition of Earthwave England 2008.
Yesterday, Conrad Humphreys and James Hooper lined up along with many other surfers for the second edition of Earthwave at Polzeath Beach, Cornwall. The current record stands at 44 riders on one wave set by Lahinch surf school (Ireland) with the unofficial record standing at 84 and held by Earthwave Brazil. Motivated by the record breaking attempt on the Guinness World Record for the 'most surfers riding the same wave' in Cape Town in September 2006, the Kahuna Surfing Academy (Cape Town, South Africa) has challenged selected surf schools, promoters and surfing organisations in virtually every time-zone on the planet to try and break the record – all on the same day.

Inspired by Nobel Prize winner Al Gore's film "An Inconvenient Truth" and loosely based on similar initiatives by organisations such as Live Earth, Earthwatch, Earth Day, Earthdance and Earth Hour, the objectives of the Earthwave Global Surf Challenge are to celebrate the surfing lifestyle, raise awareness of Global Warming and to encourage people to start adapting to a more sustainable way of life that reduces their impact on the environment. Earthwave is the first event of its kind to be run worldwide on the same day, providing the opportunity for stand up surfers of every age and ability and on any equipment to celebrate their lifestyle and make a statement about reducing their impact on the environment.
