Snowsports enthusiasts have a real treat in store - the Freesports on 4 FREEZE, sponsored by LG - the UK's highest profile snow and music festival ever - is coming to the banks of the River Thames in London. From 23rd – 26th October 2008 Battersea Power Station will be transformed into a real life ski resort featuring the biggest real snow jump ever made in the UK with a live music line-up to match.
Kicking off the northern hemisphere winter season in style, the FREEZE incorporates the LG FIS (International Ski Federation) World Cup, attracting world-class snowboarders such as British number one and LG sponsored rider, Dan Wakeham. Gearing up to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Dan will be competing in the LG FIS World Cup event for the all-important qualifying points. Passionate about growing snowsports in the UK and creating opportunities to develop tomorrow's Olympic hopefuls, Dan is proud to be associated with the FSO4 FREEZE, sponsored by LG. Dan commented: "the FREEZE is a great opportunity to showcase Britain's growing stature and talent in the snowsports arena," he continued "it's great to have LG backing the event, which I really hope will inspire young hopefuls".
Also confirmed to ride at the event is snowboard Olympic silver medallist Danny Kass, as well as pro rider Chris Sorman. Skiers are very much part of the FSO4 FREEZE, sponsored by LG. The event is attracting some of the biggest names in the ski world: Tanner Hall, Jon Olsson, TJ Schiller and Jacob Wester who will all be competing for a $25,000 cash prize.
The focal point of the event is undoubtedly the 17m table top real snow jump created especially for the FSO4 FREEZE, sponsored by LG, but whilst the snowsports events are more than enough to keep you entertained there is much more on offer. After all the riding is completed attention will turn to the giant 10,000 capacity Kayam tent hosting the live music performances headlined by The Enemy. In addition there will be après ski bars (a la Morris bar in Val d'Isere); movie premiers (including Grenades Boned Age, and the English production Bread and Buttered); Relentless energy drink on tap served within a range of cocktails from their aptly named Blizzard Bar. All this, and a genuine ski village with shops lining the main resort 'high street' where visitors will be able to pick up bargains from last year and check out the latest kit about to hit the slopes. There will also be an opportunity for VIPs to chill and watch the competition in comfort in the LG Lounge.
As part of their commitment to bringing new ideas to life, LG is proud to support the British snowsports community: "LG is delighted to be associated with the Freesports on 4 FREEZE and the FIS World Cup events" explains Andrew Warner, Marketing Director, LG Electronics UK and Ireland. He continued "as a brand we're always trying to bring new ideas to life and that matches well the young and exciting nature of snowboarding and freestyle skiing". LG will also be on hand showing off their latest technology and offering free goody bags, discount vouchers and competitions to every visitor.
For the first time ever, amateur snowboarders and skiers around Britain also have the chance to perfect their Big Air jumps and tricks, with the safety of an Air Bag to catch them. The LG Air Bag tour is visiting eleven indoor and dry slopes during September and October 2008 (see www.londonfreeze.com/lg for tour dates and destinations).
