Following the Ecover Blue Mile Plymouth, schools across Devon and Cornwall have been taking part in a dedicated Schools Blue Mile event between 12th and 14th September.

The three day programme is being supported by Plymouth University, STEMFest and the National Marine Aquarium and combines an interactive visit to the National Marine Aquarium’s Just Add H2O experience, the Blue Mile, a viewing of the Marine Conservation Society’s Fisherman and the Pearl puppet show and a hands on session with the University’s science and technology showcase.

450 pupils have taken to the water kayaking, sailing and stand up paddling their way around the Blue Mile course, learning some news skills and enjoying the interactive programme during the Marine City Festival.

All Saints Academy Plymouth said: “Great fun, a new experience for the children to participate in teaching them teamwork in a new environment.  Nice to see lots of smiles with students of all ability taking part.”

Oreston Community Academy said: “Excellent experience and a chance to develop their confidence with a range of brilliant activities.”

High View Primary Schools said: “Absolutely fantastic day on the water kayaking, sailing and stand up paddling.  They (the children) all want to come back and we hope it becomes an annual event.”
